Somerset is a beautiful British county surrounded by countryside and rich with history, it is also the perfect destination for families with children of all ages. Our family accommodation in Somerset is in a great location to explore all areas of the county. Discover our top picks to visit during your family holiday in Somerset.

Explore Wookey Hole Caves

For a perfect family day out in Somerset, Wookey Hole Caves should always be one of the first things on your list to do, and be sure to look out for the extravagant light show to see the caves in all their glory. Wookey Hole is the largest show cave in England with a range of other attractions including the Mystic Fairy Garden, Valley of the Dinosaurs, Pirate Golf, and much more. With attractions for all age groups, including cave-aged cheese for cheese lovers, you are sure to have a fun-packed day.

Visit Middlemoor Water Park

The Middlemoor Water Park is a go-to destination in summer and only a 20-minute drive from Lakeview Holiday Cottages. If your children are 13+, visit Middlemoor Water Park to water ski, wakeboard, jet ski or even go-kart.

Take a trip to the Zoo

Another one of the great things to do with kids in Somerset is to visit the Zoo. Zoos are a great way of showing your children the importance of animal conservation and care. Not to mention, children love discovering new things! And, if the weather isn’t on your side that day, you can always visit the Aquarium as an alternative. If you’re staying at our family accommodation in Somerset, Zoos and Aquarium’s are roughly a 20 to 45-minute drive away, depending on which you choose. Find out more about Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm and Tropiquaria Zoo.

Immerse yourself in a carnival

Somerset’s world-renowned carnivals typically take place between September and November. Here you’ll see the streets of Somerset towns adorned with colour and carnival festivity.

Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the carnivals have been cancelled this year. However, it’s worth the wait if you choose to do another family holiday in Somerset in future. You can then make a weekend of it in November to see both the Bridgwater and North Petherton Carnivals two evenings running, then a fabulous firework and bonfire party. Lakeview Holiday Cottages are only minutes away from both Bridgwater and North Petherton, so no worries about parking, you can just walk!
