Glastonbury Tor
This enigmatic hill near Glastonbury holds both real and mythical history, and is said to be the home of Gwyn ap Nudd, Lord of the Underworld and the King of Fairies! Whether or not this is true, the hill is a grand sight to see, and provides a view that’s nothing short of stunning when you reach the top. See the much talked about terraces on the way up, and witness the stone Church of St. Michael that was built in the 1300s and is treasured as a grade I building today.
Brean Down Fort
If you’re staying a few days in Somerset accommodation, why not take a trip to Brean Down Fort, located just nine miles south of Weston-super-Mare. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the fort holds a great deal of historical value and is protected by the National Trust. Sitting at the far end of Brean Down, the fort sits on a piece of land jutting out over a mile into the Bristol Channel, and is definitely worth a visit for the sightseers out there!
Cheddar Gorge
At 400ft deep and three miles long, Cheddar Gorge is England’s largest gorge. It features a stunning cliff-top walk, providing sights of the gorge and its surroundings, as well as caves in which prehistoric man is said to have once lived. For impressive sights both high and low, accompanied by an atmosphere of prehistoric history, Cheddar Gorge is the place to visit during your Somerset holiday!
